DESTA worked with ATREE on modelling the true costs and benefits of localized vs. centralized RE for meeting the demand of large energy demand centres. The goal was to objectively compare centralized and localized RE production and delivery systems vis-à-vis total system cost, land requirements and impact on carbon sequestration. To this end, a system dynamics simulation model and interface have been set up, to provide a means to evaluate the two modes of energy delivery across these different indicators. Real-world data from two locations has been input to test outcomes. The model simulates over time (25 years) and has the capability to compare the two on both per unit of electricity delivered terms and in aggregate terms.Kabir presented the findings at the Net Zero Dialogues in Aug 2024.
