Masterclass at Adaptation Futures International Conference, Sep 2021

Mihir and Kabir took a Masterclass titled ‘Viewing Adaptation through a Complex Systems Perspective’ in which, through a mix of theory and real-world examples, they demonstrated how adaptation to climate change, an inherently complex, non-linear, dynamic process could be better understood using tools which embrace complexity such as systems thinking.  This is especially true as Human beings and social ecological systems, inherently complex or complex adaptive systems, have this unique ability to self-organise, indifferent ways at different times in different forms, to tackle local challenges and thereby evolve. And Hence, adaptation cannot be viewed as a linear process. Some of the topics  addressed were What are the tenets of complex systems? How are they different from complex adaptive systems? How to evaluate adaptation to climate change using contextual complexity? Read More Here
